  1. Petersfield Family Photography

14th November 2012 by Rick Carter

This was a lovely family shoot in Petersfield, Hampshire. These guys were given one of my lovely gift vouchers. They make great gifts (it’s Christmas soon too right?) although perhaps I’m biased?

Like a lot of my clients these guys had recently moved in – which can work well for a family photoshoot – there is  more space and sometime it’s nice to have empty walls for a studio type feel. I think the reason a number of my photography clients are in this situation is that a lot of people think about moving when they know a “little one” is coming, then by the time they actually move the baby has arrived and then of course time has a different quality entirely. That said I do like some of the personality that comes from a house well lived in – maybe it’s because the walls in my home are pretty much covered with frames!

Anyway, the shoot was fun. Dad and I had a nice chat about photography (he’s a keen snapper), Little James’ big sister was great too – I love having fun together as a family.

  2. Harry, 3 week Old, Newborn Baby Photography, Petersfield

25th May 2012 by Rick Carter

    This was a lovely surprise!

I went to school with the Dad in these photos. I haven’t seen him for about 15 years and had no idea I was about to meet him, his wife and 3 week old baby son. As I often to say to new parents if baby is older than 10 to 14 days then the chance of the curled up sleepy newborn photos is greatly reduced – nether the less – Mum and I had spoken before and we agreed we’d see if we could get any but the plan was to really get some images of all of them while baby Harry was still so small.

I have to say that this works pretty well – Harry in this case was a star, but for my money I tend to prefer the images of baby with one (or both of you) and then we can stretch booking a newborn sessions to a time in the first three weeks – just as long as you know what you’re going to get.
