Charlotte & Steven – Pregnant with Twins
14th December 2012 by Rick CarterThis was a lovely shoot. One of the things I treasure about being a baby and bump photographer is getting to meet and learn something about your birth (and life) stories. Sometimes people fall pregnant easily, sometimes they don’t. Often maternity shoots are because the pregnancy is even more special or poignant. I want to try and tell some of that story with my work – not just snap a photo of your bump.
One of the other things I like, is that by not having a studio and instead being in your environment is that you can hopefully relax and let me “in”. These guys really like this stretch of water near the Hamble. Initially I thought they wanted to go down to the habour, which on a November day was I thought, not going to work as well as some nearby woods – BUT they knew the area and they liked (and had their first date) on a little tow path along the river. The walk couldn’t have been more photogenic – just going to prove that wherever you want your photos, is the right place for you.

9 Month Old Jacob, Baby Photography Southampton – Hampshire
12th October 2012 by Rick CarterI had a a great time with this lovely family from Southampton. We were lucky enough to be able to get out and take some photos in some nearby woods. I always think it’s nice to try and get outside if possible – the light is always different (not always better!!) My daughter says “daaarrrk woods” – but generally there are always areas in woodland that have interesting light. Something to consider if there are any near you that we could visit.

Newborn Baby Photography, Southampton
8th August 2012 by Rick CarterClients ask sometimes about whether you need to have a glamorous house with amazing lighting. In short the answer is no. Of course if you have a nice home that’s light and spacious that’s great, but if you haven’t – don’t worry. Your photos can still work. This lovely couple from Southampton (Hedge End) are due to be moving any time now and so weren’t too keen on having showing any of their home and space was fairly limited. It doesn’t matter to me – the main thing I want from the images is to capture those early newborn / new parent moments. It’s an emotional time – you can almost see the love pouring from new parents with their new tiny bundle of joy – that’s what I want to see.
